United Way of Payne County (UWPC) and The Dunkin Theatre reunite to bring back the in Cushing on Friday, Aug. 11.

One man band, Hosty, is scheduled to perform at The Dunkin Theatre, with Blue Dirt Project as the show opener. Doors open at 7 p.m.  The show starts at 8 p.m.

“Attending this concert is one way to support your neighbors, friends and family,” Ruth Cavins, executive director of UWPC said. “There’s a good chance you know someone who has received services from one of our partner agencies.”

Charlie Hickman Band performs at 2022 Rockin' for United Way Benefit Concert

This is the second year for the fundraising event. Last year’s concert included Jason Savoy and featured Charlie Hickman Band, a rock band that formed in Cushing in 2016. The group attributes Hank Williams Band and Foo Fighters as some of their influences and boasts a single titled “Tell Me Why” with more than 20,000 listeners on Spotify.

The talent and organizers of this event not only aim to raise money but also increase awareness about UWPC’s reach. The organization offices in Stillwater, but serves all of Payne County including more than 6,000 individuals outside of Stillwater city limits.

Last year, The Salvation Army, which originated in Cushing, provided essential services such as food and rent/utility assistance to 225 Cushing residents. Payne County Youth Services provided counseling and family support services to over 200 Cushing youth, and American Red Cross conducted disaster training with 435 Cushing residents.

A total of twenty-two local nonprofit agencies receive funding from UWPC each year. The UWPC $1,000,000 annual fundraising campaign begins Sept. 1. The same goal was set and surpassed last year. Events such as the benefit concert help contribute to Cushing’s $35,000 portion of that goal.
