As a United Way supporter, you are helping to ensure that every child, individual and family in our community thrives. On behalf of the lives you have touched, we thank you. Now you can create a last will and testament—and a gift for the future with FreeWill.

FREEWILL

Most people believe creating a will is expensive and time-consuming, requiring much deliberation and visits to financial advisors, attorneys and other consultants. In fact: In a recent survey, more than 80 percent of respondents say that having a last will and testament was a very important part of their financial plan, but less than 30 percent of those same respondents actually had a will.

That’s why United Way and FreeWill have teamed up: So that philanthropists like you can support the people and causes that mean the most to you—while saving time, money and stress.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

FreeWill is an award-winning social venture founded by graduate students at Stanford University and supported by leading experts in law, design and philanthropy. You’re able to designate bequests to charities, including United Way and thousands of organizations across the globe. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Fill out online. It only takes 20 minutes to fill out the information needed to create your last will and testament. Visit freewill.com/unitedway to get started.
  2. Print out forms. The information you provide is combined with the precise language of FreeWill’s legal forms and given to you as a printable will.
  3. Sign and keep safe. To make your will official, sign and initial the document in-person with your witnesses. Keep your new will somewhere safe but accessible.

How can I create a will and leave a gift to United Way through FreeWill?

Creating a will using FreeWill is quick and easy. Begin by collecting the basic information, such as who will be the executor, who will be the beneficiaries and how much each beneficiary will get. Determine items such as how much you will leave to United Way or other nonprofits. Then visit freewill.com/unitedway and follow the instructions. You may exit the program and return at a later time. Once the will is complete, simply print it and sign it in the presence of two witnesses.

Am I able to try out the program before committing?

Absolutely! Just visit freewill.com/unitedway. Use “John Test” or “Jane Test” as your name and run through the program to see how simple it is.
